Update on Haiti

Sal visits the headquarters of Christian Blind Mission to see the humanitarian work being carried out in Haiti

I received an update from Christian Blind Mission HQ today on the situation in Haiti. Our teams in our various projects are working the best they can to help the residents. Grace Children’s Hospital has collapsed, and the young patients are living in tents in the gardens. Thankfully our eye clinic at the University Hospital was undamaged, and they are now running 24 hours a day.

However there is sad and shocking news from the Clinical Nursing College in Port au Prince, which was totally destroyed. All nurses, doctors and auxiliary staff inside were killed. As the international rescue teams leave the island, the huge task of rebuilding Haiti is slowly beginning.

Sal is a Trustee of Christian Blind Mission, the largest non-governmental disability charity working in the developing world. CBM was founded 100 years ago to specialise in medical work to help those suffering from diseases that affect the eye. More recently, through its Forgotten Children division, it has expanded its work to support children  with disabilities in the developing world.
